We are currently seeking volunteer tutors & driving support for our Harambee Homework Club! 

About Harambee Club 

Harambee is a Swahili word which means collaboration and working together, and at Harambee Club that’s exactly what we do! 

Harambee Club is a weekly homework club focussed on supporting children and young people from newly arrived communities, with a particular focus on those from African backgrounds. 

More than just a homework club, Harambee Club is about placemaking and community connections, whilst also building confidence in young people and their families to approach literacy and learning!

What we're looking for​

We are currently seeking volunteers to support the Harambee Club in Bendigo. There are two ways you can be involved: 

 

Tutors: 

Your role is to support young people with literacy and numeracy homework during sessions. Don’t worry if this is your first time tutoring, all training will be provided. The most important thing is that you: 

  • Are a motivated, enthusiastic, fun, warm individual 

  • Have great communications skills and are able to confidently engage with school-aged children and young people 

  • Are someone who wants to build skills in tutoring and mentoring 

  • Can commit to a minimum of two hours (3. 30pm – 5.30 pm) per week on a Tuesday afternoon, over a minimum period of 9 months (coinciding with school term dates) 2 

 

Drivers: 

Your role is to support young people travel to and from homework club sessions. For this position it’s important that you: 

  • Have full Victorian driver’s license with no restrictions 

  • Are responsible and reliable with strong time management skills 

  • Have your own mobile phone 

  • Feel confident engaging with young people, their parents, educators and the program’s facilitators.
